Why We Volunteer
We volunteer because we care — for the land, for people, and for ways of building that are thoughtful, responsible, and rooted in place.
Volunteering with Tambdi Maati is an act of participation rather than observation.
It is about learning directly from the land, engaging with local ecologies, and working alongside people who build with skill, patience, and care. Through simple acts of service, volunteers begin to understand how design emerges not from drawings alone, but from listening — to materials, climate, and communities.

Our Volunteer Programme
Intent
The volunteer programme is envisioned as a service-learning and capacity-building model. While grounded in community and ecological service, it is equally intended to help young students and professionals develop the skills, confidence, and understanding required to become self-sustainable practitioners and entrepreneurs in sustainable design.
By learning how initiatives are conceptualised, facilitated, and sustained, volunteers gain exposure not only to technical skills but also to the social, organisational, and economic dimensions of responsible practice.
Your Role
Assist in conducting walks, workshops, and community learning sessions.
Support hands-on activities: natural plasters, soil work, material preparation.
Help document biodiversity, local knowledge, and site observations. Engage with participants and help manage small-group learning.
What You Learn
Fundamentals of natural building and indigenous material systems. Basics of biodiversity awareness and local ecological interpretation. Skills in workshop facilitation, public engagement, and field communication. Techniques for setting up learning modules in new communities. Programme Structure Weekend and short-duration voluntary engagements.
Service-Learning Model
The Tambdi Maati volunteer programme follows a training-through-practice approach, where learning happens on site through direct participation in live projects and workshops. Volunteers learn by contributing through hands-on work, observation, and collaboration with artisans, designers, and facilitators.
This model values commitment, care, and shared responsibility. Participants are expected to engage actively and work collectively within real site conditions, materials, and processes.
The programme is supported through a contribution-led learning model, which sustains community workshops and artisan-led training.

The programme is open to citizens, students, educators, and practitioners interested in learning through service and place-based practice.
