 Building Responsibly

About us

Tambdi Maati Foundation is dedicated to conserving and revitalising the ecological, material, and cultural landscapes of the Konkan Bio- region. Our mission is to protect and re-activate indigenous knowledge systems rooted in तांबडी माती - the lateritic red soil that has shaped local architecture, agriculture, and ways of living for centuries. We work to counter the impacts of insensitive development and climate stress by promoting natural building practices, biodiversity awareness, and field-based learning.

Through hands-on workshops, awareness programs, participatory research, interdisciplinary dialogue, and community engagement, we aim to foster climate-responsive design, resilient livelihoods, and a deeper relationship between people and land - ensuring that Konkan’s knowledge, materials, and ecosystems continue to thrive into the future.

"Tambdi Maati Foundation's workshop made me remember my childhood days when I was playing with mud. I enjoy doing experimental work and not just sitting in an AC room and working on our laptops. For Architects, but also if we take any other stream as well, Hands-on Work is imperative, then only we learn. We cannot just work on our laptop"
