About Us
A Letter from the Founders
"माझ्या कोकणा, मायेच्या गावा, मातीत तुझ्या जीव रेंगावा..."
(My Konkan, mother's village, may my life wander in your soil...)
This simple folk line is a cry from the heart, a yearning for the sacred soil that has nurtured our unique way of life.
We are the Tambdi Maati Foundation, an initiative born from this very love for the land and the life it has sustained for centuries. This land, with its distinctive Lateritic Red Soil - 'तांबडी माती', is an extraordinary mosaic of ecosystems that has nurtured our unique culture, food, and resilient communities. Nestled between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats, with vibrant marine ecosystems on one side and evergreen forests on the other, it is home to countless endemic species of flora and fauna.
Today, our region is under a dual threat: rapid insensitive urbanization and development, compounded by the accelerating impacts of climate change such as rising sea levels and extreme rainfall, yet fast depleting water resources.
The relentless rise of modern concrete and steel construction disregards centuries of local wisdom, perfected with our own 'Tambdi Maati’, designed to harmonize with the climatic and cultural context. At the same time, modern mud construction is only accessible to the elite and rich.
At Tambdi Maati Foundation, our commitment is to confront these multi-pronged challenges.
We believe the solution lies in our own earth.
We invite you to join us, to lend a hand, and to ensure that the spirit of 'tambdi maati' continues to guide us.
Join us in building a Konkan that honors the earth, protects its people, and thrives in harmony with nature.
Let's build a resilient Konkan, together!
