A Khazan Walk with Heritage School, Delhi

Project Type

Living Landscapes

Date

2025

This learning walk was conducted with students from The Heritage School, Delhi, across the mangrove and khazan landscapes of Old Goa–Ribandar and Panjim.

The programme introduced students to the khazan system, traditional salt-pan lands, and the rich mangrove biodiversity that supports these coastal ecosystems.

Moving slowly and attentively through the landscape, students observed how water, soil, vegetation, and human intervention come together to shape these environments. Along the way, they engaged playfully and thoughtfully with the terrain - handling mud, journaling their discoveries, and creating mandalas using leaves, seeds, shells, and fallen flowers gathered with care.

Their curiosity, questions, and quiet focus transformed the walk into a living classroom, where learning emerged through observation, touch, and reflection. The experience encouraged students to see coastal landscapes not just as scenery, but as carefully balanced systems shaped by ecology, culture, and community knowledge.
