Site Planning and Arch Making workshop with Goa College of Architecture
Project Type
Natural Building Workshop
Date
2026
This full-day, hands-on workshop was conducted with students from the Goa College of Architecture at the Dhargalim site, using the project site itself as a classroom for experiential learning.
Students engaged in ecological site walks and soil mapping to understand land conditions before moving into material-based exploration.
The day progressed through CSEB block making, arch-building experiments, and on-site testing, allowing students to learn structural logic, material behaviour, and construction sequencing through direct practice.
Alongside making, discussions around low-tech and context-responsive design encouraged students to reflect on alternative building approaches rooted in ecology, resource efficiency, and place.
The process of building, testing, failing, and rebuilding helped students unlearn abstract assumptions and reconnect design thinking with material reality.
The workshop offered an immersive introduction to learning through doing—where environmental planning, structure, and material understanding emerged directly from working with the land and building on site.
